CDO is a regional
community organisation active in the Canterbury, Marrickville, Kogarah,
Rockdale and Hurstville Local Government Areas of Sydney. CDO
works to promote community development and social justice in the
region. Established in 1974, CDO maintains strong links with a
range of community interests. Our members include neighbourhood
centres, family support services, youth groups, ethnic community
organisations, aged services, disability groups, environmental groups
and local councils.
We work with these groups
to enhance co-operation, collaboration, innovation and local planning
which identifies and responds to issues affecting our region.

Our Home and Community
Care Development Officer supports and resources services which provide
assistance to frail older people and people with disabilities and their
carers. We convene HACC Forums in Marrickville/Canterbury and the
St George area which provide opportunities for advocacy, lobbying,
information sharing, service promotion, support, development and
networking for providers of Home and Community Care services.

We participate in, and
support local organisations' involvement in planning decisions which
affect the region. CDO produces an annual HACC plan outlining
future service needs for residents.

Advocacy
and Representation

|
|
We work with local
organisations to monitor and respond to social policy issues of
relevance to the region. We seek to influence government decisions
about these issues through representations to local Members of
Parliament and other key politicians, by preparing submissions and
reports and working with state and national peak organisations.
CDO is involved with a
range of regional and state-wide committees, forums and consultative
processes. Through participation in these forums we are able to
gather and disseminate information useful to local organisations, ensure
that issues of regional concern are raised, and participate in statewide
activities and campaigns of relevance to local community organisations.
